5 Tips for a Smooth Transition Back to School: Tip #4

Tip #4: Get to Know Your Child's Teacher

Teachers spend more time with your children during the school week than you do. It is vital to create a partnership with your child's teacher. At the beginning of the year, invest in getting to know them. Send him or her a list of favorites to fill out (See below for freebie!) Then, throughout the year, send in surprise treats from their favorite list. It doesn't need to be expensive or even cost a dime! A simple thank you note does not go unnoticed and means the world to any teacher.

If you ever have questions about your child's progress, behavior situations or classroom expectations, send a respectful email requesting a call or meeting. Phone call correspondence or in person meetings can often be more effective than an email. Be understanding of your teacher’s time frame and schedule availability. Teachers get bombarded during the day with a million things, so be patient while waiting for an email reply.

Remember, teachers don't teach for the money. They are in the occupation because they have a huge passion for educating your children and making a difference. Teaching, especially in today's society, is NOT easy. Give them grace, benefit of the doubt and know that they are doing the best they can with the tools they have for your child.... and 25 others.
